The Hunter's License!

The first step in becoming a hunter/huntress is you have to obtain your hunter's license.  They have free classes all over North Carolina.  You have to register to sit in one of those classes through www.ncwildlife.org .  It is a three day class and usually lasts about 3 1/2 to 4 hours each day.  This class teaches you everything you need to know from the history of hunting, gun control, shot placement, the different kinds of ammo, safety, first aid, and survival techniques.
I have my class scheduled for March 20, 21, and 22 near Lake Lure.  I am really excited about learning something new!  I have recruited several family members and friends to go along.  A friend of mine who has been doing this for years and years has peaked my interest in hunting, especially turkeys.  I never thought I would enjoy something like this but, here I am, ready to learn!  I've been researching turkey hunting since it is fastly approaching.  It opens in April!!
I know that the biggest turkeys with the longest beards are how you judge who has the best one.  In rare cases, some wild turkeys have two beards.  The picture above is a wild turkey with a double beard.
